The Courage in Student Award
Heads up to all you courageous high school students looking to be future journalists.
Introducing the The Courage in Student Award.
This scholarship is especially for high school students who aspire to become journalists. If you’re in high school, and you find yourself drawn to the school news club, or like to write and report on current events, this scholarship is for you!The award recognizes those individuals who have confronted adversity in direct defense of the First Amendment and of a free student press.
Scholarship details:
Award: $5000 for student AND administrator. Airfare and Hotel accommodation to attend the National Scholastic Press Association where the scholarship will eventually be awarded to the winners.
Requirements: Grade 6-12th (middle school through high school). Student must be pursuing a journalism career and/or classes.
How to enter: Applicant must write a 600 word maximum essay on how they directly defended press freedom, as well as 2 letters of support.
Deadlines: Entries must be postmarked by June 30th for each year.
